Grow your website using referrals

In the beginning, referrals are the best way to grow your website.

When people like your content, they will share it with others.

Then, these people, if they like it, they will share it with others too, and so on, and so on, until everyone who would benefit from seeing your content has now seen it. That is how organic growth works, and it works wonders. It's the best way to grow your first website.

Referrals give instant trust and credibility and cost nothing.

Get good referrals by establishing your area of expertise and creating good content.

Referrals give instant trust and credibility

Something just feels grimy and gross about ads. Whenever one appears in my Google search, social media, or before a YouTube video, I feel annoyed. They can be quite obnoxious, and as a result, we build a bad feeling towards them.

But if a close friend, relative, or our favorite influencer recommends a product or service? How do we feel?

We often have more trust in the product or service and are more eager to try it. This is one of the reasons referrals are inherently powerful.

Referrals are free

If you are just starting out, you likely don't have money for ads anyways. Even if you do have some capital that you want to invest into your newly found business, don't waste it on ads.

You must wait until your business is tested and profitable before you start a paid marketing campaign. Otherwise, you'll just be flushing money down the drain. Facebook ads, Googles ads, they will make you bankrupt before anything has time to take root.

Referrals, on the other hand, are free.

Establish your area of expertise

What exactly do you want to be specialized in? What is your expertise? Your niche?

When deciding this, I consider two things.

  1. What am I good at?
  2. What do I want to be good at?

I think the second question is often overlooked. People think that they can only choose something that they are ALREADY good at. But I think this is a shame - you can be good at something with enough time if you dedicated yourself to it.

So for example, say you are really interested in AI or pottery, but as the moment stands, you have absolutely no experience in either. That is okay, you can still select it to be your topic of expertise, because as your pursue this field of study and write about it, you will get better and better, and soon, one day, you WILL be the expert.

So consider carefully how you want your future to be and what kind of things you want to be an expert in. Then go after it!

Create good content

Create content that is evergreen - i.e., content that won't go stale, that people can come back to after you've written it two years ago and still find value in it.

Of course this cannot be the case all the time. News, for example, is ever changing.

However, it is a good basic rule of thumb. Write something that brings value, is worth sharing, and for the love of god, leave it be and don't change the post URL.

Have other people recommend you

You could use a call to action.

For example, if you find this article useful, consider sharing it with others! If you know someone who could benefit from what I write, please feel free to share this website with them.

But most importantly, just write and produce the most value that you possibly can. Identify a problem and fix it.

A) People who think your solution is good and B) know someone who would benefit from reading it too, will C) share it. Referrals are the best way to grow your website.
