5 Reasons to use Descript to edit your podcast

I use Descript to edit my podcast and add captions. (And edit some videos.)

For editing audio, it's great.

I use Descript for five reasons: studio sound, easy to edit, ChatGPT, captions, and stock footage.

Studio Sound

There is a "Studio Sound" effect under "Audio Effects" that will eliminate all background noise and make your audio crystal clear.

Ease To Edit

Another reason I use it is because of its ease of use for deleting parts where you messed up.

Because your audio will automatically be transcribed and all editing is done in a text editor, you can easily find the parts where you fumbled or repeated yourself and delete it. Easy.

ChatGPT

I can take the transcription and put it in ChatGPT and ask ChatGPT to help me summarize a description and title. Then use this description or title when I upload to Spotify.

I also ask ChatGPT to identify a hook or a short segment that could work as good audio for a reel.

Captions

Under "templates" there is a caption section, with multiple customizable templates.

The captions on Descript look amazing and are so easy to use.

Stock Footage

With a paid plan you get some nice stock footage. All in 4k or 8k. It's very useful for storytelling and when you want to give your audience a visual.

I think B-roll footage you shoot would be better and look less like stock footage, but in a pinch it's very useful!

Drawbacks

For editing 4k video, it lags a lot. Obviously my weak computer is a factor, but I have noticed compared to other editing software like CapCut, Descript uses a lot more resources.

And in comparison to CapCut and other video editors, its capabilities and options are much less.

Conclusion

Descript has some very powerful applications, and it is especially useful to get your voice out there quickly while maintaining high quality.

However, if your goal is YouTube or highly edited content, Descript doesn't replace a full video editor.
